Sponsorship for ScienceFest 2024 at SALA

SALA is excited to participate in ScienceFest 2024, a dynamic full-day event that brings together science enthusiasts, educators, and innovators. With a total budget of $8,500 required to cover extensive programming, facility usage, staffing, and marketing efforts, we currently have $2,000 in sponsorship commitments. We need an additional $6,500 in sponsorship funds to fully support this enriching community event.

STEMarts Lab

 

  • About: STEMarts Lab is a nonprofit sci-arts organization located in Taos, New Mexico. Through international sci-art experiences and mentorship programs in art, science, and technology, they inspire and empower the next generation.
  • Venue: SALA Event Center for Los Alamos ScienceFest
  • Date: July 13, 2024
  • Program: “Space Messengers [XR]” – An immersive extended reality (XR) experience featuring augmented and virtual reality. Discover the Space Messengers [XR] installation at SALA for Discovery Day and Discovery After Dark.
    • Guided XR Experiences: STEMarts Youth Ambassadors will lead captivating augmented and virtual reality experiences.
    • Explore Space in Virtual Reality: Interactive VR exploration of the cosmos.
    • 3D Virtual Reality Painting: Use Oculus headsets to paint in a 3D virtual reality environment.
    • Augmented Reality Art Exhibit: A curated AR art exhibit at SALA and Ashley Pond with interactive space-themed objects.
    • Space Visualizer: Share augmented reality creations on social media and watch them become part of a dynamic mosaic projected at SALA.
  • Cost: $4,000 for programming, including artist and ambassador stipends, and AR app design.

  • Time: 12-3pm
  • Location: Los Alamos SALA Event Space
  • Description: STEMarts Ambassadors will lead an in-person three-hour workshop on creating 3D paintings with the Tiltbrush app using Oculus VR headsets. The final 3D creations will be imported into augmented reality for mobile phones.

Fractal Foundatation

  • About: The Fractal Foundation, formed in 2003, has taught fractals to over 69,000 children and 55,000 adults. Based in Albuquerque, they promote a culture of scientific inquiry and mathematical literacy.
  • Date: July 13, 2024
  • Time: 10 AM – 3 PM (Discovery Day) and evening (special show)
  • Program: Educational sessions on fractals, featuring interactive demonstrations, “Fractal Rocks” screenings, and a unique evening event showcasing the incredible Flying Fractal art balloons.
    • Fractal Art Balloons: The first balloons of their kind, fully digitally printed with mathematical artworks. Fractals are infinitely complex patterns, and the images on the balloons are tiny details of the Mandelbrot Set, magnified billions of times.
    • Fractal Show: Takes viewers on a tour of the fractals in nature and zooms through infinitely complex mathematical fractals. Featuring original music, the show is educational, entertaining, and suitable for audiences aged 3 and up.
    • Videos and Talks: Explaining the math behind the Mandelbrot set and providing an overview of the Fractal Foundation’s education and outreach program.
  • Cost: $2,000 for educator stipends, accommodations, and operation costs of the hot air balloon.
  • Special Feature: A projected fractal display will light up the exterior of the SALA building, adding a visually stunning element to the evening festivities.

  • 3-4 PM: ‘Beyond’ the Realms of Possibility – Performance and talk by Britney King, with Andrea Polli as discussant/Q&A moderator.
  • 4-5:30 PM: Secrets of the Sun – SciArt filmmaker talk by Michael Barnard and film screening of Secrets of the Sun.

Monday, July 15:

  • 5:30 PM: Doors open and chat (posters or didactic materials in the lobby).
  • 6-6:35 PM: Lecture.
  • 6:35-6:50 PM: Q&A.
  • 6:50-7 PM: Break.
  • 7-9 PM: Film showing – Contact (1997).

Thursday, July 18:

  • 6-7 PM: Lecture/Panel on Geology with Nelia Dunbar and guests.
  • 7-9 PM: Movie showing – Dante’s Peak (1997).

Friday, July 26:

  • 2-4 PM: The Nature of Information – Telluride conference keynote/LASER, led by Richard Lowenberg, including Zoom participation.

SALA’s Contribution

  • Technology: Interactive projectors and touch screen displays will be set up throughout the lobby and hall to enhance the interactive experience and engage attendees, especially younger participants.
  • Facilities and Staffing: Full use of SALA’s facilities with dedicated staffing.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Comprehensive efforts to promote the event across various platforms.
  • Cost: $2,500 for all facility-related expenses.
